Has the identity of a mysterious Lynx like creature roaming Calderdale been revealed?

Gran Janet Bennett believes the animal, spotted near her home in Ogden, could be her 15-year-old Bengal cat, Jazz.

Bernadette Western told the Courier last week she was left terrified after coming face to face with the creature while walking her dog Charlie.

At the time she described the animal as having the face of a cat and the body of a fox.

But Janet says the animal bears a striking resemblance to her distinctive moggy.

Janet, 55, said: “The ‘Lynx’ is definitely and without a doubt my cat. I wasn’t surprised when I saw the story as we’ve had similar things before.

“He is a very striking cat and roams those fields all the time. He’s brought weasels and moles into the house before.

“I can understand why the lady might have been scared as it’s quite hard to get a sense of perspective.

“It can be hard to gauge something and we have had things around here before.”

There have been a number of ‘catbeast’ sightings across Calderdale over the years.

Between 2005 and 2007 a spate of sightings at Cunnery Woods, Hipperholme; Park Road, Elland; Cragg Vale and Copley were reported in the Courier.

Some referred to a Lynx like creature, while other people reported spotting a larger black beast like a panther or a puma.
