A VOLUNTEER rescue squad were called to help a walker who slipped.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team went to Hardcastle Crags near Hebden Bridge on Sunday after a 60-year-old woman hurt her ankle.

After pain relief was administered, she was carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance which took her to Calderdale Royal Hospital for further treatment.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team is made up of around 50 volunteers who are trained to search for and rescue people around the South Pennine moors, as well as searching for missing people in urban areas and evacuating people who are hurt, often from places the ambulance cannot reach.

Their services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They rely on donations to fund their work.
