Wakefield 2 FC Halifax Town 1: Jim focused on league
JIM Vince has urged FC Halifax Town fans to shrug off the disappointment of defeat in last night's West Riding County Cup defeat at Wakefield and focus instead on backing the side in their primary objective of promotion from Unibond Division One North
The Shaymen went down 2-1 at a freezing College Road last night, a late Ashley Stott strike not enough to pull back a two goal deficit against a fired up home side, but Vince said it was important to put the result in perspective and said he was already turning his attention to Saturday when his side face a crucial league clash at Curzon Ashton.
"I wouldn't read too much into the performance because we have got a big game coming up on Saturday when the team will be different as will the focus and the commitment," said the Town chief.
"We lost and that was unfortunate but we move on.
"Obviously we made quite a few changes from last Saturday and we had one eye on next Saturday's game so we are not going to take any chances with any of our players.
"It was a game the team we put out was strong enough to win but I told the players not to get involved with the physical side and risk injury.
"Wakefield put a few challenges in but we expected that because they wanted the scalp and we wish them well, I hope they go on to win the competition.
"It's not sour grapes because they won the game and full credit to them, but when we play them in the league it will be completely different and for me it's about keeping focused on the main objective which is the league."
And despite a reshuffled Town side coming off second best at Wakefield, Vince saw a number of positives, most notably in the fact that the squad came through unscathed on a pitch that became increasingly frostbound as the game went on, and also that Tony Barras was given a run out in the later stages.
"It was a really cold night and that means there is a danger of muscle pulls but we came through and the only knocks were the ones we had prior to the game." said Vince.
"And the fact that Tony Barras got 20 minutes. I was pleased to get him back into things which was also a big plus."
