Warrington v FC Halifax Town: Time to do it on the road - Aspin

BOSS Neil Aspin has demanded improved away form as Town prepare to travel to Warrington tonight (7.45).

Seven of the Shaymen's next 10 matches as they bid for promotion from Unibond One North are on the road.

And with no wins in their last three away from the Shay - at Mossley, Wakefield and Radcliffe - Aspin is looking for an improvement.

"Our away form needs to pick up," he said. "We have taken two points from the last three away games and it should have been nine.

"We have conceded seven goals in those three matches and that is something we have to put right. We have to defend better."

Warrington were beaten 2-1 at home by in-form Radcliffe Borough at the weekend.

But Aspin believes they will provide a stern test for his Town side.

"Warrington missed a last minute penalty in that game so could have levelled against a good Radcliffe side," he said.

"They are capable of beating anyone in this league, but have had some results where they have lost when they would have expected to win."

The unpredictable nature of the division was never better illustrated than last Saturday when Curzon Ashton lost at Rossendale, Skelmersdale were beaten at home by Garforth and leaders Lancaster City went down at Harrogate Railway.

That was a result that enabled the Shaymen to close the gap on City to just four points with a game in hand.

"You can't predict results in March and April," said Aspin. "Harrogate played Thursday then Saturday so not many can have expected them to win.

"But no one can expect to just turn up and get three points."

Lancaster are away to Colwyn Bay this evening and Town will be keen to exploit any further slip ups from the leaders in north Wales.

"We have to concentrate on what we are doing and not what is happening anywhere else," said Aspin.

"If we do not do our job at Warrington the result in the other games are irrelevant."

Aspin reports no fresh injury worries following Saturday's impressive 3-0 win over Prescot Cables at the Shay.

And Tom Baker is available as his suspension following the red card he received in the second half is not expected to kick in until the trip to AFC Fylde on April 20.

Aspin will check on Ryan Crossley who missed the weekend's action because he was ill.

Mark Hotte, who was absent for family reasons, will not be rushed back into action if he is still needed at home.

Warrington have strengthened their squad in the past couple of weeks with the signing of former Northwich and Woodley Sports keeper Ben Connett and former Premier League midfielder Gareth Farrelly.

Connett replaced Richie Mottram who walked out on the club at half time in the recent clash with Woodley after a bust up with manager Joey Dunn.

Dublin-born Farrelly had spells with Everton, Bolton and Aston Villa, winning six caps for the Republic of Ireland.

He has also been player-manager at Bohemians and more recently played at Cork City.
