Warrington v FC Halifax Town: Town looking to build on a good weekend
HAVING enjoyed such a good weekend, it is crucial Town look to build on that at Warrington tonight.
Victory over Prescot Cables on Saturday was the minimum requirement as the Shaymen avenged defeat on Merseyside earlier in the season.
But to then discover that Lancaster City, Skelmersdale United and Curzon Ashton had all lost games they would have been expected to win was a massive bonus.
The combination of results means that Town are just four points off leaders Lancaster with a game in hand, and the top side go to Colwyn Bay this evening.
Of course, the result in north Wales, whatever it may be, will mean nothing if Neil Aspin's side cannot win at Warrington.
They had an impressive 4-1 victory over tonight's opposition at the Shay back in August when goals from Mark Peers, Nicky Gray, Ryan Crossley and Tom Baker made it two wins out of two to open the campaign.
They will go into the game on the back of a couple of handsome home successes against Ossett and Prescot.
But they will not find it easy on a ground where, thanks to an Ashley Stott goal, they could only manage a draw last season.
Warrington might have snatched a draw in their game with in-form Radcliffe Borough at the weekend, only losing 2-1 after failing to capitalise on a late penalty.
And they have won seven and drawn two of their 15 games at Cantilever Park so far this season.
They beat Curzon Ashton on home soil, although they lost to both Skelmersdale and Colwyn Bay.
Their overall position in mid table is about right as six of their home wins have come against sides below them in the standings.
Form-wise it should not be much of a contest.
Town have picked up 15 points from the last 18 on offer - although their five wins have all come at home.
Warrington have a less than impressive four points over the same period with a 3-0 victory at home to Prescot Cables their solitary success
That game was watched by 174 fans, a figure that will be blown out of the water by the massed ranks of the travelling Town faithful who will make their way across the Pennines.
And if the Halifax players are in the right frame of mind, the supporters should return home with smiles on their faces.
