Water Polo - Halifax's unbeaten run is over

HALIFAX SC under 14s lost their unbeaten home record in the Wakefield & District League following a 12-1 defeat by a strong Castleford A side.

It is hoped that Halifax, with two or three first year players, will learn from the defeat against a side who gave them a lesson how to play water polo and the standard they have to achieve.

Castleford had taken a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, the plus points for Halifax being keeper Young Gawthorpe who made some good saves while at the other end chances fell to Matthew Bailey and Ethan Somerville Jones who hit the post.

The second and third quarters saw Halifax's best spells, even though they did not create much, their defence tightened up with Evie Andrews, George Stanley and Nick Truelove getting some good blocks in while Gawthorpe continued to be outstanding in restricting the visitors to one goal.

The same levels of determination saw Halifax concede just one goal in the third quarter, and after a good move by Halifax involving Ellis Gawthorpe, Chris Truelove and Ruth Shaw, Matthew Bailey made no mistake from five yards to make the score 6-1 to Castleford.

Halifax could only manage one shot from Ethan Somerville Jones after good work from Emily Sutcliffe but again he hit the post.

Castleford responded with another six goals against a badly fading Halifax side to run out comfortable winners.
