A FATHER and son whose factory was pounced on by masked raiders have decided to close their business.

Anthony and Gareth Oldreive, of Brunswick Metal Spinners, Brunswick Industrial Estate, South Street, Halifax, were targeted last week by a gang who stole £17,5000 worth of metal discs.

They say the raid has left them too concerned that they will be robbed again, so have decided to cease trading.

Anthony, 66, who has run the firm for the last 30 years, said: “We’ve got the gate shut with a padlock on it while we’re inside – but that’s no way to work.

“I’m retirement age and I’ll probably get some sort of part-time job but Gareth will be out of a

job.”

Detectives are appealing for information about the raid, which happened between 3.45pm and 3.55pm on Wednesday.

Five men, all with scarves covering their faces, ordered Anthony and 31-year-old Gareth into a corner while they loaded around two and a half tonnes of copper discs into a transit van.

Police believe the thieves will try to sell the metal on, and are urging anyone who is approached with any metal that sounds like the stolen discs to get in touch.

Anyone with information about the theft should call Calderdale CID on 0845 6060606 or CrimeStoppers, where information can be passed on anonymously, on 0800 555111.
