Elland market holders were forced to head indoors for the eagerly awaited Christmas because of bad weather.

But the blustery winds and driving rain and snow didn’t stop around 300 shoppers from pouring in to the Cartwheel Club where around they were treated to a host of stalls.

Santa handed out a present to every child and the Christmas prize draw was made, with 40 winners announced.

School children from Elland CofE, Crossland and Brooksbank sang at the Rex cinema, and Southgate Methodist Church choir also sang.

Joe Braithwaite, chairman of Elland district partnership, said: “I would like you to emphasize the tremendous help we received from Charles Morris at the Rex Cinema, and the volunteers at the Cartwheel Club, without them the whole event would have had to be cancelled.”
