A massive haul of suspected counterfeit packets of cigarettes and tobacco were seized at convenience stores.

West Yorkshire Trading Standards and police officers raided several stores in the Dewsbury area.

They seized suspected counterfeit tobacco and other items including watches, headphones and handbags.

And from one store, they found a storage room with over 180,000 counterfeit cigarettes inside.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of copyright and trademark offences. He was bailed as enquiries continue.

Councillor Andrew Pinnock, of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said “This seizure sends a warning to traders that West Yorkshire Trading Standards will crack down on the supply of illicit tobacco products.

“Counterfeit goods undermine the economy by taking money and jobs away from legitimate traders.
