A teenager hopes to do her mum proud when she climbs Ben Nevis for Breast Cancer Care.
Nineteen-year-old Lucy Marston of Shelf decided to embark on the challenge on discovering her mum Zoe, 56, was suffering from the disease five weeks ago.
The Bradford University student will perform the climb on September 15 along with her boyfriend Charles Mcmoran.
She said she felt it was important to make the decision.
Lucy said: “To me there was no point just sitting there moping about it. I felt I had to do something.
“I’m fighting for my mum.”
Lucy added that she was looking forward to the challenge.
She said: “I think it will go all right. I was a keen walker before, I haven’t been walking for a while.
“I’ve had one friend say I should sprint it. A lot of people just say well done for getting into it and they’re proud of me and that kind of thing.
“We’re planning to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks about two weeks before we do Ben Nevis.”
Lucy, who studies medical engineering, said one day she’d like to see her mum go up Ben Nevis herself.
She said: “She’s really proud of me for doing it. She’s been saying I’ll come out on training walks and things like that.”
Astoundingly Lucy has already raised 95 per cent of her target but said she wants to keep going. She said: “I’ve nearly reached my target of £500. I’d like to raise as much as I can.”
