Winter Sports: Snow Tour in town

THE 2008 British Snow Tour kicks off its six stop nationwide tour in Halifax next month, with the Quiksilver British Snowboard and Freeski Big Air Championships and dedicated Schools Tour Programme.

Stopping off at Hipperholme & Lightcliffe and Queensbury Schools on July 3 and 4 as well as Halifax Snowsports Centre on 5-6, the British Snow Tour looks forward to discovering fresh talent, crowning new British champions and inspiring future ones by offering 1,000 free lessons.

It will be the first time Halifax has hosted the event and is just reward for the town's record of producing a number of talented snowboarders including, Wayne Taylor and 14-year-old Jamie Nicholls, who put Halifax on the World snowboarding map last year when he featured in David Benedek's world-renowned snowboard movie 'In Short'.

The British Snow Tour hopes to inspire over 5,000 children to get active with snowsports, promoting the all-year-round facilities the UK has to offer.

A number of the UK's top snowsports athletes including 2006 Olympians Zoe Gillings and Dan Wakeham have developed through the British Snow Tour which successfully provides a path from grass roots through to the highest level of Freeski and Snowboard competition in the UK.
