Woodley Sports V FC Halifax Town: Top spot is Town prize
FC Halifax Town can put themselves into pole position in Unibond One North with victory at Woodley Sports tomorrow (3.0).
But Jim Vince's side will face the Stockport-based outfit without midfielder Damien Allen who is sidelined with a torn hamstring.
Allen suffered the injury in the opening minutes of Tuesday's 2-0 win over Mossley - a result that saw the Shaymen climb to second in the table.
His injury will be fully assessed next week once the initial problem has settled down but he could be out for a month.
His absence could give Jon Smith the opportunity to force his way back into the starting line up.
Smith has not started a league game since the 3-0 win over Skelmersdale United, but replaced Allen in midweek and scored the goal that set Town on the road to their seventh win in eight games.
"We have players within the squad who can come in and do a good job," said Vince. "Jon scored a penalty on Tuesday night and showed good character to step up and take the kick."
Tomorrow's game will provide many of Town's players with a new experience as Woodley play on an artificial pitch.
But Vince is not expecting the surface to play a major part in the outcome of the contest.
"It might suit our passing game," said Vince. "It will be something unique to play a full 90 minutes on it, but it shouldn't be a factor in the result."
Woodley have lost four of the seven home league games they have played this season, which bears out Vince's thoughts.
And the Town boss will be hoping that trend continues as his side bid for a place at the top of the table.
"We have an opportunity to go up to first and it is something we want to grasp," he said.
Woodley could include a familiar face in Adam Morning, who left the Shay at the end of September
He scored twice in the Stockport club's last home league game - a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Skelmersdale.
