WORK to build a new Morrisons Supermarket in Elland is expected to start next month.
Calderdale planners have removed a planning condition which would have hindered the building process.
Previously, building could not commence until a replacement factory was built for Nu-Swift on the Wistons Lane site.
The supermarket argued that was not ideal with regards to programming the development.
Now, both buildings can be built simultaneously, but, the supermarket can’t open until Nu-Swift is in occupation of its new premises.
A supermarket spokeswoman said the new agreement would enable the store to open sooner.
“The plan is to start next month and open the store as soon as we can,” she said.
“But, we are currently in the process of the detailed programming for construction of the two facilities, and cannot confirm opening at this stage.”
The supermarket’s plans for Elland received widespread support from shoppers who formed a campaign group to back the plans.
Up to 300 jobs will be created at the 25,000 sq ft store and petrol station.
Included in the plans is the relocation of fire extinguisher firm Nu-Swift nearby into more suitable premises which would also safeguard its 70-strong workforce.
Gillian Pearson, chairwoman of the Elland Supermarket Supports’ Group, said: “We are delighted. It has been a long time coming since the planning meeting in May.
“Fingers crossed everything will now go to plan.”
