Yorkshire plumbers arrested in tax raids

Two plumbers from Yorkshire have been arrested after allegedly failing to pay the right amount of tax.

HM Revenue & Customs have arrested a man from Pontefract and another from Sheffield.

They have been questioned and released on bail pending further enquiries.

John Pointing, Assistant Director, HMRC Criminal Investigation, said: “Earlier this year HMRC announced a clampdown on plumbers, gas fitters, heating engineers and other trades people who failed to declare their earnings and pay the correct tax.

“These arrests are the culmination of months of work and they send a clear message to those people who have not declared income from the work they do; that HMRC will take action against those who choose not to come forward and pay the tax they owe.”
