RACE for Life organisers have urged Halifax runners to hand in their sponsorship cash.

This year’s race was Halifax’s first for Cancer Research UK, with thousands signing up for the 5k run at Savile Park.

But organisers said nearly half the women who took part nationally last year did not return any sponsorship money.

As the entry fee only covers the cost of the race, it is sponsorship that makes a difference to the charity so bosses urged runners to pay in their cash as soon as possible.

Pete Foster, Race for Life marketing manager for Yorkshire, said: “Race for Life at Savile Park was fantastic.

“We want to say heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part or supported our participants, as well as the wonderful volunteers who helped make it happen.

“Now the big day is over, we are asking our supporters to take one last step – by returning the money they have raised so we can go on funding much needed research.”

To return sponsorship money visit www.raceforlife.org, call 0871 6411111 or send a cheque payable to Cancer Research UK to Race for Life, PO Box 442, Northampton, NN3 6UU.

Those who took part in the Halifax race have until September 30 to buy a pre-paid place for next year at a reduced fee of £10.
