Men and women in the Calder Valley are being given the opportunity to serve their community and become real-life firefighters.

The retained station in Mytholmroyd is recruiting three on-call fire fighters to cover day and night shifts.

The closing date for applications is Sunday, May 5, but there will be an open day at the station on Burnley Road for interested parties to meet local on-call firefighters, so they can discuss their experiences, training and the application process.

Steve Rhodes, Area Manager Service Support, said: “This is a very exciting job which requires a big commitment from you and your family. It is a very demanding role – both physically and on your time - and you will attend anything from road traffic collisions to moorland fires, but ultimately the satisfaction of serving your community makes it extremely worthwhile. ”

The role can be anything up to 100 hours per week and anyone interested must live within five minutes of the station.

Applications should be made via the careers page at www.westyorksfire.gov.uk.
