Calderdale roads well gritted

Have your say

May I commend Calderdale on keeping the roads open on Saturday, 19 February. I travelled from home to Huddersfield using the A roads and saw one gritter on my commute.

I used the A58 to Sowerby Bridge, then travelled along Copley bottom to Ainley Top then down into Huddersfield Town Centre. Alas I cannot commend Kirklees. As soon as I hit the roundabout at Ainley Top the roads got worse and not a gritter in sight.

Is it that Kirklees decided not to grit the roads as they knew that the snow would turn to rain later in the day? Surely the main aim is to keep the arterial routes open no matter how much it is costing the council. This is not the first time that it has snowed this winter. A colleague also struggled to get into work this morning, she travelled from a different direction within Huddersfield and experienced the same treacherous road conditions again using a main A roads as I had.

Come on Kirklees, sort out your gritting policy so that the residents/workers don’t have the extra pressures put upon them.
