Can’t change meaning for minority

In the Courier, November 23, Coun Simon Young states “At the moment same-sex couples are unable to get married but can enter into a civil partnership which allows for largely the same rights as marriage, but it does not carry the same social significance and cannot be described as equal.”

How right he is, for thousands of years marriage has been bringing together a man and a woman together as one, who then belong to each other, are united in love, and provide comfort and help to each other. Marriage, hence, is not for “same-sex couples”. Surely the meaning of the word “marriage” cannot be changed just to please a minority of people?
