It doesn’t make any sense to close the Calder Valley Club - it is a great facility with a dedicated staff team.
The trustees were not offered a choice. CMBC have expected the charity to continue providing the service based on 2008 rates and have not been prepared to increase the rates. The charity subsidised the service by £44K in the last 6 months alone. We all know how much the cost of transport has increased over recent years.
Doug Jones is right, it will cost more to provide an alternative service or more likely, those that need the service most will end up going without the service they deserve.
