Cyclists plan - you can’t be serious!

I READ Eddie Pollard’s letter about cyclists paying road tax (Yoursay, February 9) with a raised eyebrow.

Is he trying to be funny or serious? If he’s being serious then how about pedestrians paying for pavements, coin-operated pelican crossings would help cover operating and maintenance costs, and while we’re at it, give pedestrians the right to claim damages from motorists for the toxins they have to breathe from exhaust fumes and sue for environmental damage caused by the same?

The words “shut up, park your car, get off your backside and walk, cycle or bus rather than depleting the world’s resources in the name of laziness and greed,” teeter on my lips, but I’m normally too polite to say them.
