Local government secretary Eric Pickles MP has announced that there are failings within council owned shops, offices and buildings which are standing unoccupied.
Three years ago, whilst a councillor, this problem was developing so I conducted a survey in Calderdale.
With information from people concerned on losing their livelihood I put together a file on complaints and reasons.
I put the findings to the Council Departments but no one was interested in resolving the situation. “It will work out”, was the reply. “There is no problem. Sell the properties cheap.”
Is anybody on Calderdale Council really concerned what happens to business and properties or do they just try and blame it on the recession?
If they use their common sense there is a solution, proved in some other authorities.
