As a competitor (and overall winner) in the recent Loyal Company of Town Criers Diamond Jubilee British Championship in Hebden Bridge, I wanted to record words of appreciation and a thank you for the staging of such a great event.
The involvement and enthusiasm of Hebden Royd Town Council Mayor, Cllr Christine Davenport was infectious. The hard work and help in organising the event by the Hebden Bridge Business Association was inspiring. The time and effort of those who volunteered as judges can never be appreciated enough and the warm welcome by residents was wonderful. But the ultimate honours must be given to the Halifax and Hebden Royd Town Crier and Escort, Les and Julie Cutts. Since joining the world of town crying they have contributed so much. Their enthusiasm to stage this event and the excellent job they did as hosts fulfilled many aims – one major aim being to show Hebden Bridge was open for business as usual. It was my first time in Hebden Bridge; now having seen what it has to offer I know I can say on behalf of all those who attended it will not be our last.
