As a 68-year-old lifelong supporter of Halifax Town, I have been going down the Shay through thick and thin since 1952 and recently it has been like going back to the fifties, part-time players playing with passion, no time-wasting, no play-acting.
Just 100 per cent commitment and also the benefit of no crowd trouble, both sets of supporters getting on well.
A good friendly atmosphere, reasonable admission prices. Another thing that takes me back to the fifties is that all matches are only a short travelling distance for everyone, home or away, bringing back memories old Division 3 North.
Forget about watching the overpaid prima donnas in the professional leagues, give me non-league football any day. Why not come down and give it a try?
Just one thing missing - a tuppenny bag of chips and Green Final on the way home.
