I read with much interest Mr D O’Hara’s letter. “St Thomas More - best school I ever taught in” (Yoursay, April 5).
I am unable to recollect Mr O’Hara but some of the names he mentions I do know. Lorna Cornwall, Mary Roche, now Taylor, runs a couple of very successful local pubs. Stella Webster sadly dies but her sisten Deidre is on the Facebook site.
Some former pupils of Mary’s year still meet up; Sue Nuttall, Anne Kelly etc. I was the year below these pupils but we were amongst the first intake.
Can I inform Mr O’Hara that quite a few of us meet up every 5 or 6 weeks at the Watermill at Salterhebble.
We usually have a good turn out - 15 or 16 of us. Shirley Naylor travels all the way up from Lincolnshire to join us. We also have a St Thomas More Group on Facebook. Set up with a lot of help from Teresa Bassinder.
We are due to meet again on Friday April 27 at the Watermill from 12 noon.
We hope to arrange a visit to the school before it closes in 2013. We would be please to see Mr O’Hara should he care to pop in and see us. I’m sure some of us would remember him.
