Lay-by should have been a condition of planning

Have your say

Councillor Raistrick has tried for many years to solve the problem of the non-existent lay-by (along with many others).

Your article itemising the costs involved in this fiasco missed the whole point of showing up the Highways and Planning department, along with Councillors.

The point is that it now must be 20 years ago since Calderdale Council sold the Hipperholme Junior school to Mr Ibberson, of Younger Homes and then 12 years ago and more allowed a planning application from Younger Homes to build Thompson Close which must have at least 25 houses on the site.

This was without the Highways and Planning insisting that a bus lay-by must be made to further enhance what must be mistakes, they then allowed planning for the apartments shown in the photograph in your article, from Mr Ibberson, of Younger Homes and did not insist on a bus lay-by.

It is difficult to believe the lack of thought which must gone into this from the Highways and Planning on 3 occasions, i.e. ‘you don’t build a lay-by, you don’t receive planning’!

I further understand that they are now selling the Brighouse swimming baths and possible, if I’m correct, the adjacent car park.

Mr Ibberson, is obviously quite a smart chap and he must think he is dealing with small children and can make his decisions accordingly!
