Letter: Bring market back to town

I recently went on a tour called '˜The Hidden Gems of Halifax'. It was most interesting and during the tour we were allowed a brief glimpse into the Piece Hall.

Whilst there I enquired of the person showing us around, that on reopening the Piece Hall, would we be getting our original ‘weekly’ markets back? I was told that there would indeed be many ‘pop up’ markets there in the future.

I replied that Halifax originally had its own weekly market and wanted to know why this had been allowed to lapse. I remember going each week to the Piece Hall to visit the weekly market there (I believe on two days a week).

The Piece Hall ‘courtyard’ is reminiscent of an Italian piazza. A market there would bring lots of tourists and visitors to this unique location and in turn would encourage visitors to further explore the town including its wonderful old borough market.

Come on Halifax, bring business in and promote this fantastic little town and get our regular market day back for us.

I actually live in Ambler Thorn but consider Halifax my town and visit several times a week.
