Letter: Concert was a missed opportunity to show a sign of peace

I went along on Sunday afternoon (October 16) and was very moved by the performance of Karl Jenkins' Mass for Peace, 'The Armed Man', by the Halifax Choral Society, accompanied by Black Dyke Band.

“The Armed Man” was written by Karl Jenkins in 1999 and coincided with the unfolding atrocities in Kosovo, to whose victims Jenkins dedicated this work.

One movement gave us the Islamic Call to Prayer, given by an Imam, linking not just with Kosovo but a reminder of the plight and hardship of all war refugees right now.

What saddened me greatly was that at the end, when soloists came forward for their bows, the Imam did not appear. Also some Muslims seemed to have left the theatre at that point.

What an opportunity to show a sign of peace was missed in these tough times of Isis etc through the Imam and the Muslims having left the theatre.
