Letter: Thanks for your show support

After seeing the brilliant pictures in the recent edition of the Courier, the Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge would like to thank a number of people who helped to put on the event.

Firstly, Dave “Flash” Roberts as our compere did a sterling job in rallying the entrants in the competition. He also provided a number of able cohorts to ensure the bikers were booked in.

Secondly, Shire Cruisers for the use of the land and 12th Halifax Sea Scouts for the use of their premises for the cinema, counting of votes for prize winners and helmet drop. We are also grateful to all the tenants at The Wharf for being so understanding and supportive of the event.

We would also like to thank Hilary Thompson and her staff from Age UK Calderdale and Kirklees for providing marshals, EVE for providing the safety barriers. Also we would like to thank our sponsors, including Calor Gas Limited in Elland, Afflex Hose in Sowerby Bridge, Viaduct Motors in Todmorden, Country Stores in Hebden Bridge, Autobody Refinishing, Pennine Powder Coating, Talking Heads, Trinkette, Tony Archer Car Trimmers, Ryburne Windows, Halifax Motorcycle Services, Sent 2 Print, Sprayme, Hillcrest Car & Van Hire, Target Tyres, Philip Fearnley Photography, Grizzleys Motorcycles, Buzz Solomoto (Scooters), Lee Bros Motorcycles, International Sports Services, Jaybee Biker Bits, The Village Restaurant, Hargreaves Lock Gates, BBN Sutcliffe Hardware, and Noir in Hebden Bridge.

The free Family Fun Day could not have gone ahead without the community ward forum grant and we are grateful to Calderdale Council for their support in this.

As people will no doubt be aware it was Volunteer Week recently (June 1-7), and it was brilliant to see how many people helped out to make the event a success. An estimate of the value of the time given is valued at over £3,000, which is a sizeable amount! If this were to be paid for, we, as a club would not be able to organise and hold this event.
