Letter: Turn churches into coffee shops

After a recent visit to Sowerby Bridge I saw yet another old church on the main road with locked gates and an overgrown garden.

See the photo I took (above) to know what I mean.

I was after the toilets and a drink when I had an idea.

Of course! These rundown churches should be open to the public providing toilets, tea and coffee!

I don’t mean instant drinks in paper cups, but proper machines with takeaway drinks or in china cups, along with a range of snacks.

This could be part funded by the council or a company like Costa.

It would encourage people young and old to visit the church, which would then become a focus for the shops like many libraries are now.
