Next time I’ll run – but raise money at a coffee morning

Doing their bit: hundreds of runners line up in Savile Park in July this year for the first Halifax Race for Life

I feel that I must write to the Courier on behalf of all those who took part in the Race for Life.

I ran the race to raise money for cancer research as I lost my son in December 2010 to pancreatic cancer.

I managed to receive a great deal of sponsorship but, try as much as I could, not everybody would pay up.

People would shy away and if you asked them too often they would then avoid you.

So please do not blame the runners. We did our bit and loved every minute of it and it is now up to those who pledged money to pay up.

I managed only to collect £320 of over £500 pledged.

Would I do the race again? The answer is Yes.

But to raise any money in the future I would hold a coffee morning and then at least I know that I would receive all the money.
