One of the most misunderstood faiths

I recently read Cynthia Feather’s letter titled ‘Everyone allowed own beliefs’. Ironic to the title, I read that the ‘Christian’ lifestyle is the best. But the in-correct judgments on Islam drew my attention.

Islam happens to be one of the most misunderstood faiths in the world and many people continue to make judgements from what they hear or see in the media. In reply to the previous article:

lGod is given many beautiful attributes in Islam. God’s love is in the Quran too: “Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love God, follow me; God will love you and forgive you your sins. God is Forgiving, Merciful” (Quran: 3:31)

lJihad is not a ‘Holy War’. It’s term means to ‘Strive’ or ‘Struggle’. The Holy Prophet described striving for the betterment of ourselves: “The most excellent Jihad is that for the conquest of self.”

lIslam does give everyone the freedom to believe: “Proclaim: “This is the truth from your Lord,” then whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve...” (Quran: 18:29)

“Each of you chooses the direction to follow; you shall race towards righteousness. Wherever you may be, God will summon you all. God is Omnipotent.” (Quran: 2:148)

Islam tells me to love and respect everyone and do good deeds.

I submit and worship God without any intermediary. Islam isn’t about bombs, burqas and violence. It’s about peace.
