I refer to the recent decision by the Lib/Dem and Labour Councillors on Calderdale Council to reduce the redundancy payments to a maximum of 52 weeks.
This did not go far enough; Calderdale's staff now have up to 73 per cent better packages than all the other Councils in West Yorkshire.
The Conservatives moved that the maximum should be 30 weeks at a maximum weekly payment of 500 and whilst supported by the Independent Councillor it was rejected on the casting vote of the Labour Chair, Councillor Tim Swift.
Could this have anything to do with the Labour Party's reliance on funding from the Trade Unions?
