Riverside features would further improve town

I have lived in Sowerby Bridge for almost 30 years and have seen the town improve slowly.

Many of the shops are now very attractive and have a younger clientele. Many shoppers come from out of town.

And there is a thriving cafe and bar culture.

It would also be very nice if a few other features were added.

I would like to see some picnic areas on the riverside under County Bridge where there is an eyesore at present.

That area has an access point opposite the new swimming baths and could be vastly improved to provide a pleasant entrance to a play area and seating spot to take full advantage of the river.

It would also lend itself to modern floodlighting to further improve Sowerby Bridge’s romantic night image. There is an excellent vista looking both up and downstream.

An improvement is also possible up a short section of the Ryburn rivulet near and below the Stirk Bridge.

I am aware of the flood factor, so the areas would have to be substantial and have a permanence built in so as not to be ruined by flood.
