I well remember the strong Lib Dem campaigning a decade or two ago against possible library closures and cutbacks.
Accordingly I have refused to respond to the Calderdale questionnaire on where the axe should now fall.
Clearly the Lib Dem leader, Janet Battye, should withdraw her energies from handling such a baleful topic and target them instead on her national leader, Nick Clegg, who is keeping a coalition in power that thinks we can cut our way out of depression.
This method was tried in the 1930’s and it failed. Furthermore, since money is but a lubricant of industry, should not alternative Britpound currency be issued by the Treasury not to mention possible local ‘coinage’ on an interest-free basis to meet the need.
