We must remain vigilant over walk-in centres

Following reports in newspapers that the walk-in centres at Todmorden and Park are set to close in October, Calderdale Labour Councillors and activists have asked the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for a clear indication of their intentions.

The CCG have rejected the newspaper reports as inaccurate. An earlier attempt was made to close the walk in centres in February this year only for it to be prevented by a Labour-led campaign.
We now call on the CCG to make an unequivocal public statement confirming that there will continue to be out of hours and weekend access to GP services locally.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of the NHS being founded by the Labour government in 1948. Labour in Calderdale will continue to fight to expand access to GPs across the valley. It is clear that the health service cannot be trusted in the hands of the Conservative and Liberal Democrat government and we will have to remain vigilant.
