Why is ageism still allowed?

Have your say

The story of 73-year-old Peter Binns losing his job as park ranger at Manor Heath has obviously stirred strong feelings amongst Courier readers.

It’s been some time since nine reactions have been published about one subject.

A few weeks ago you printed my letter calling for local people to join Anchor’s national campaign to appoint a dedicated Minister for Older People.

I would urge all readers again to back our campaign and sign our petition, and Pauline Nash as Calderdale’s Older People’s Champion to do the same.

Ageism is still the only acceptable “ism” in these times, but why should we let it continue to be this way? Everyone has a right to be able to contribute to society and employers should give jobs to the right people with the right skills, no matter what their age.

So if you are over 10 years old, please take one minute to go to www.greypride.org.uk and sign the petition.

I know that astute people reading Peter’s story will see how much he can offer and I know he will be snapped-up!

Go on Peter – prove why the council were mad to let you go.
