We put Yorkshire athletes on the map with our spectacular haul of medals at the London Olympics.
We have been awarded a stage in the Tour de France. We are regularly awarded awards within our tourist industry. We are going to have a high speed rail link which will reduce the travel time to the capital, thus opening up even more tourism opportunities. So what is the common link here fellow Tykes? God’s county with its spectacular scenery and hearty folk is on show to the rest of the world, and aren’t we proud of that? Well actually...No! I walked along the street in my local area of West Vale this morning and I was appalled at the amount of litter and general muck that was around. Papers, cans, bottles, cigarette packets and butts, baby nappies, crisp and sweet wrappers, plastic bags and so on. Couple that with the disgusting habit of spitting and other human waste; and just don’t get me started on dog poo! (Mind you, someone had picked it up but then the bag was just tossed aside.) WHY? Come on Yorkshire in general and Calderdale in particular, let us take some pride in our local community. It doesn’t take much effort to find a waste bin or even take your rubbish home does it? Are the council and property owners adjacent to our roads and streets going to consider cutting back overgrown vegetation/brambles that overhang onto the pathways? I know that times is ‘ard but pride in your community costs nowt! We know that we are the chosen ones, so let’s demonstrate loud and clear what a great place Yorkshire is to live.
