Calderdale Big Band,
Halifax Playhouse
THESE young musicians gave a performance as hot as the weather outside.

All credit to the small band of hard workers and musical director Mark Chandler for their efforts to keep big-band music alive in Calderdale.

This swing session had some delightful reworks of classic tunes, including some of Glenn Miller's finest such as In The Mood and American Patrol.

Soloists were plentiful and the band was driven by a strong rhythm section, fine examples being Duke Ellington's Take The A Train and Satin Doll.

Guest saxophone players Stewart MacDonald and Rod Mason, and Chandler on flugel horn broke up the programme with some modern jazz.

Tributes to legendary performers included Ain't Misbehavin' (Fats Waller) and Sweet Georgia Brown (George Chisholm).
