Hebden Bridge Picture House
ONE man and his candlelit piano left a Hebden Bridge audience in raptures. But with a name like Duke Special he really needed to.
The Duke, a Belfast folk singer, graced Hebden Bridge cinema with his customary dreadlocks swaying and eye-liner painted thick.
"I'm not used to playing on my own", he told a near sell-out audience.
Despite the array of instruments behind him, only his piano and a drum, lit by spooky projections, were used.
Not that it mattered.
His stunning, soaring ballads lulled the near sell-out crowd. I've never known a cinema so peaceful.
Special mention must go to support act Voluntary Butler Scheme, a one-man band who was also a bit special.
"I've only got 10 CDs left outside", he said near the end of his set. You should have seen them run.
