Many accolades are lavished upon this one-man show from the Edinburgh Fringe – and Toby Hadoke did not fail to deliver.
The long coat and broad-rimmed hat-clad comedian made his entrance to the Doctor Who theme and, within moments, had the whole audience in his confidence.
He took them on a journey through his life which has been influenced – for better and worse – by the British television institution.
With insights on life and culture, occasionally veering towards Grumpy Old Men-style delivery, he talked about his childhood, adolescence, marriage and, most poignantly of all, becoming a father. It was done with humour, candour and hilarious memories, which everyone could so easily relate to.
His clever and astute observations, coupled with an obvious enthusiasm for Doctor Who and all it stands for, gladdened my heart.
Diehard fans – like me – knew exactly where he was coming from but there was plenty to keep more casual viewers laughing too.
