My Brilliant Divorce

THE handsomely refurbished Victoria was perhaps rather too large and impersonal for Grumpy Old Woman veteran Dillie Keane's tour de force.
Keane plays Angela Kennedy Lipsky, describing her life when she is suddenly ditched by her husband on bonfire tight.
With self-esteem at an all-time low, she resolves to keep her middle-aged pecker up.
Husband "Roundhead" is an object of ridicule, pathetically seeking excitement from a series of younger, more exotic models.
Daughter Vanessa couldn't care less, absorbed as she is with her heavy-metal drummer boyfriend.
Disapproving mother phones periodically from Ireland, depressing her all the more. Leaving doctor's daughter Angela, already prone to hypochondria, to discover the dubious consolations of counselling helplines, dodgy solicitors, unfulfilling employment, HRT, Prozac, sexual aids, lonely hearts columns, self-interested philanthropy and hilarious singles holidays.
On a sparse set with only her dog for company, Keane delivers a very funny, at times poignant and always engaging account of her situation.
With a fine ear for accents, droll body language and impeccable comic timing. she holds the attention, striking many a chord. When she discovers the only other person on her "exciting" Welsh holiday is good old Dr Steadman, for years her family doctor and confidant, we can only wish her well.
