"LET it shine", sing the Todmorden Gang Show cast in the opening number of this year's production, before turning in a performance designed to dazzle.

The highlight has to be Dancing Queen, which takes its cue from the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! and motors along fuelled by choice picks from the Abba back catalogue. Eye-boggling '70s-style fashions are the order of the day as the gang have a whale of a time belting out songs they clearly enjoy bringing to life.

The other showstoppers are the Dreamcoat Megamix, an arrangement of numbers from the musical by new musical director Chris Sawer, and Tribute To Buddy at the gang's bobby-soxed and pony-tailed high school hop.

Welcome To The '60s taps into another hit musical, Hairspray, while Wonka Time sees Charlie get the famous golden ticket in songs from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a set-piece complete with riotously green-haired Umpa Lumpas.

Dance routines include Ugly Bugs, with good use of day-glo costumes, and the suitably bewitching Wicked, with the stage bathed in emerald green.

This year's Gang Show has the feelgood factor in some uncertain times. Uptempo and brimming with enthusiasm, never has Crest Of A Wave seemed more apt.

This was a polished dress rehearsal for the show, which runs until Saturday, May 16.
