IT was the kind of cold and blustery weather that could put you off getting out of a warm bed on a Sunday morning.
But the conditions were no match for the enthusiasm on show this weekend when hundreds of runners got into shorts, vests, pyjama bottoms and wigs to go the extra mile for Sport Relief.

Athletes, keep-fit fanatics and people who just wanted help a good cause gathered at Spring Hall race track, Halifax, to sprint, jog, stumble and walk their way to raising thousands of pounds.

And although the three races – over six miles, three miles and one mile – were harder going than normal, the 350 contestants soon worked up a sweat as they took to the challenge with big smiles.

Organiser Nick O'Connor said: "It's been a really good day and all in the name of charity. What more could you want?"

Judith Carter, of Bradshaw, Halifax, did the mile with husband Chris. The couple, aged 65 and 64, respectively said they were planning to take part in the 10-kilometre Jane Tomlinson run in June. l Hairdressing students from North Halifax Skills Centre walked five miles on a step machine for Sport Relief raising £105.

Children, parents and teachers from New Road Primary School, Sowerby Bridge, did a sponsored walk to raise money. Headmaster Charles Rowland said everyone enjoyed the event.
