HALIFAX Vandals Ladies beat a newly-formed Siddal Ladies side 34-20 in the opening game of the Summer League at Chevinedge on Sunday.
The Warley women have switched to the 13-a-side code for the time being after a promotion-winning season at rugby union.
Siddal were playing their first game and will hope to emulate some of the success enjoyed by the male sides at the club in recent years.
Vandals quickly took a 12-0 lead with two converted tries but Siddal replied from a scrum following a knock on from the visitors, Becky Caswell sending Amy Hardcastle over and Caswell adding the goal.
Caswell then cut the gap to two points with a try but Vandals' third try made it 16-10 at half time.
Vandals added another four-pointer before the Caswell-Hardcastle combination worked again and Danielle Bedford's kick made it 20-16.
Hardcastle completed a hat-trick in her first ever game of rugby but Vandals finished the stronger and added two more tries to pull clear.
Siddal coach Andrew Perry was delighted with his side's opening effort and said the players were looking forward to the next game.
