Boxing: Club's top mark

HALIFAX Police Boxing Club is celebrating gaining Clubmark accreditation from the Amateur Boxing Association of England.

Club founder and sports director Mick Rowe reckons the Ladyship Mills-based outfit is only the second in Yorkshire & Humberside and one of only nine in the UK to have gained it.

Clubmark recognises and organisation's commitment to develop a high quality, welcoming and safe environment for young participants.

Rowe said Halifax Police BC wouldn't have gained accreditation but for the partnerships developed with West Yorkshire Fire Service and West Yorkshire Police.

Help from the fire service's Robin Ward and Dominic Furby had been invaluable. The fire service now has four ABAE assistant coaches at the club, helping Rowe and Mel Hylton.

"This means our community and schools have a great place to be involved in boxing," said Rowe.
