Calderdale’s sporting finest on show at 2013 Sports Awards

The best sportsmen and women in Calderdale were honoured at this year’s Sports Awards.

Hundreds of guests attended the event at the Shay, which was again hosted by Pete Emmett and Lea Roberts.

In the junior awards, Halifax Synchronised Swimming Club were named Junior Club of the Year, Hippetholme and Lightcliffe High School Cheerleaders were the Junior Female Team of the Year and Old Broadleians RUFC under 17s won the Junior Male Team of the Year.

Junior Female Sportsperson of the Year was Lydia Spellman, Junior Male Sportsperson of the Year was Warren Everett and Most Improved Junior Player or Performer was Isobel Davies.

In the adult awards, Amateur Club of the Year was Halifax Police Amateur Boxing Club, Amateur Female Team of the Year was Calderdale Seconds Netball Team and Amateur Male Team of the Year was Lightcliffe Cricket Club.

Amateur Female Sportsperson of the Year was Helen Fines, Amateur Male Sportsperson of the Year was Gareth Coates and Coach/Manager of the Year was Matthew Handley.

The Disabled Sports Unsung Hero award went to Teresa Hall, while the Outstanding Service award winner was Mick Sheppard.
