AN England star made an immediate impact at a cricketing event.

Tim Bresnan, who also plays for Yorkshire, took a wicket with his first ball in the Marshalls six-a-side cricket tournament, at Southowram Cricket Club.

“It was a pretty good start but I thought I should rein it in a bit after that,” said the 26-year-old fast bowler.

He also hit one of the amateur bowlers for six into the club’s car park in one of the more unusual preparations for England’s winter tour to India.

Mr Bresnan, who used to live in Brighouse, has been sponsored by the Calderdale stone and quarrying company Marshalls all season with the firm’s logo adorning his bat since the Ashes victory in Australia last winter.

“I want to say thank you to Marshalls for their support this year and I hope we can work together in the future,” he said.

Marshalls’ Group manager Neil Davidson said: “This was a day for our customers and employees to come together, meet Tim and have a fun day of cricket.”
