FC Halifax Town v Blackburn Rovers. Town manager Neil Aspin.

Neil Aspin wants his side to take inspiration from their FA Trophy run for the rest of their league campaign.

FC Halifax Town were knocked out of the competition by Dartford in a replay on Wednesday night following another impressive display in the cup.

The Town boss is encouraged by how his team have played in the FA Trophy and wants to see some repeat performances in the Blue Square North.

He said: “We’ve had a good run in the Trophy. I don’t think it surprised me to get to the quarter-finals and some of our best performances this season have come in the competition but we need to take that into the league games.

“We wanted to get a good run in the Trophy but with all the postponements we’ve had, we’ve never really been able to take our good performances from that competition into the league.

“The only downside if we had won was that we would have lost two league games on Saturday’s, but now we can play those.

“In reality, two games on Thursdays wouldn’t have done us any favours so that’s the only plus really.

“The league has to be the priority and if we’d lost those two games it wouldn’t have helped us.”

Aspin is determined that his side start moving up the table now they are free of FA Trophy commitments.

He said: “We’ve got to focus on the league now, we’ve got enough games to play where we can get ourselves into a good position and we have to aim to finish in the play-offs and taker our chances there.

“First things first, just because we’ve got games in hand doesn’t mean anything, we’ve got to get the points and get up the table.

“We’re capable of beating anyone in the league but we’ve got to be at our best.

“We’ve got a lot of games to play but we’ve got a few more players who can play in the league games so I can make a couple of changes if I need to.

“The players don’t lack confidence and they feel they can get results against most teams, but sometimes they’ve got to realise they’ve got to be at their best to get a result and if they do that, they’re capable of winning games.

“But they can’t afford to drop their standards and when they’ve played to their maximum, we’ve looked a good team.”
