Aspin praises clinical Shaymen

Town boss Neil Aspin said his side were clinical in front of goal as they knocked Droylsden for six on Saturday.

Halifax have now bagged 16 goals in their last four games, and Aspin was delighted to see the goals continuing to flow at the weekend.

He said: “I knew that if we could press them high up and put them under pressure then we would get chances.

“Previously we’ve found it difficult to score goals away from home, but in the last two games away we’ve been clinical in front of goal and taken our chances.

“Once we get that first goal, the game opens up then and I always fancy us to get more goals from then on.

“I would’ve settled for any win today but to get six is a good confidence booster going into the next game.

“I felt this was an important game because we wanted to get to forty points, which gives us two points a game from our 20 games, and if you’re averaging two points a game you’re going to finish in a good position in the league.”

The Shaymen also kept their first clean sheet in five games, something which Aspin was keen to credit the whole team for.

He said: “My concern going into the game was the fact that we’d conceded some goals from sloppy defending over the last couple of games, so I wanted to make sure we could keep a clean sheet.

“Leading up to the Gainsborough game away, we’d done very well defensively. We then had a bad fifteen minutes, conceding three, and then that’s been followed by the goals we let in at Dartford and last week.

“You can’t get into the habit of conceding goals because of the games where you don’t score so you have to make sure that you’re set up right defensively.

“It’s not just down to the back four, it’s down to the whole team defending properly. The forwards have contributed by working hard off the ball and we were very sound at the back.”

Gareth Seddon plundered three of Town’s six in the game, and his manager said it was the culmination of a good week for the frontman.

Aspin added: “Sedds doesn’t lack any confidence but even somebody like him needs to get a bit of praise and I felt in training on Thursday night he looked sharp.

“I was pleased with his efforts and it was great for him to get a hat-trick. It keeps his tally going along nicely.”
