‘Disappointed’ Aspin slams Gregory dive

Lee Gregory was booked for diving, something which disappointed his manager

Lee Gregory was booked for diving, something which disappointed his manager

Neil Aspin said he was left disappointed by striker Lee Gregory after the front man was booked for diving during Town’s Boxing Day win.

Gregory raced onto a hopeful long ball after defender Luke Waterfall had misjudged the bounce on the sodden surface.

With just Jan Budtz to beat, Gregory knocked the ball past the keeper before tumbling to the ground.

It looked at first like the referee had pointed to the spot - but instead booked the hitman for diving, with Gregory offering little by way of complaint.

Aspin said afterwards: “I don’t want my players trying to con the ref.

“I certainly don’t like that.

“If that’s what he has been deemed to have done then he deserves a yellow card.

“In future he should just make sure he scores.

“It was very important to get the goal right before half time, but I was really disappointed. Lee Gregory should have scored and he knows that.

“But he redeemed himself by getting the goal.”
